Answer
Gerlachovský štít
Gerlachovský štít is the highest peak in the Carpathians, at 2,655 metres in Slovakia.
The mountain stands in the High Tatras, part of the Carpathian range, within Slovakia’s Prešov Region. Its summit is the highest point in Slovakia and in the entire Carpathian mountain system. The peak has a distinctive cirque-like profile when viewed from some surrounding valleys.
Gerlachovský štít was first recorded under several names, and its official name changed repeatedly during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It was called Gerlachfalvi csúcs under Hungarian administration, and during the communist period it was renamed Stalinov štít before returning to its present Slovak name.
The summit is not reached by an ordinary marked hiking trail. Climbers generally need a qualified mountain guide, and routes involve exposed scrambling and technical alpine terrain. Lomnický štít, another famous High Tatras summit, is lower but has a cable-car connection and a more accessible tourist profile.
