Which mountain is the highest peak outside Asia?
Answer
Aconcagua
Answer
Aconcagua
Aconcagua is the highest peak outside Asia. It reaches 6,961 metres in the Andes of western Argentina, close to the Chilean border.
The mountain is also the highest point in both the Western Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere. Although Aconcagua is extremely high, its normal climbing route is not considered technically difficult by high-altitude mountaineering standards. The principal dangers are altitude, cold, wind, and rapidly changing weather.
Aconcagua is part of the Principal Cordillera of the Andes and lies within Aconcagua Provincial Park. Its name may derive from an Indigenous expression associated with the Aconcagua River, although the exact etymology is debated. Denali is higher in North America, and Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest, but neither exceeds Aconcagua’s elevation outside Asia.
