Which mountain is San Marino's highest point?

The story behind the answer

Monte Titano is San Marino’s highest mountain.

Monte Titano reaches 739 metres above sea level and stands immediately east of San Marino’s capital. Its limestone ridge is the country’s dominant natural landmark, rising dramatically above the surrounding Italian landscape despite San Marino’s small size.

The mountain is famous for the three medieval towers built on its peaks: Guaita, Cesta and Montale. Together with the historic centre of San Marino, Monte Titano became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008, recognised for its connection to the continuity of the world’s oldest surviving republic.

Monte Titano is also tied to San Marino’s foundation legend. Saint Marinus, traditionally said to have been a stonemason from Dalmatia, is associated with establishing a religious community on the mountain in the early fourth century. Because of its three fortified summits, the mountain is sometimes confused with the city or the republic itself.
