Ducati 1199 Panigale
Answer
Ducati 1199 Panigale
The Ducati 1199 Panigale became Ducati’s first production motorcycle with a monocoque frame.
Introduced for the 2012 model year, the 1199 Panigale used its engine as a stressed structural component. The steering head and front chassis structure formed a compact monocoque attached to the engine, while the rear subframe connected behind it.
This arrangement differed from the conventional trellis frames used by many earlier Ducati superbikes. It helped reduce weight and allowed Ducati to package the liquid-cooled 1,198 cc V-twin engine and airbox efficiently.
The Panigale name refers to Borgo Panigale, the Bologna district where Ducati is based. Later Panigale models evolved the layout, but the 1199 was the production motorcycle that introduced this major chassis change to Ducati’s superbike range.
