Which Mexican city assembled the 2011-2019 Volkswagen Beetle?

The story behind the answer

The 2011–2019 Volkswagen Beetle was assembled in Puebla, Mexico.

Volkswagen built the A5 Beetle at its Puebla plant, the same Mexican manufacturing site associated with the modern Beetle lineage. Production of the A5 model began in July 2011, and the car was introduced for the 2012 model year as the successor to the New Beetle.

The A5 Beetle shared Volkswagen’s PQ35 platform with the Jetta and was assembled alongside related Volkswagen models, including the Jetta and Golf Variant. Unlike the original Type 1, it had a front-mounted engine, front-wheel drive and a water-cooled powertrain. Its styling deliberately echoed the classic Beetle while giving the body a lower, wider and more contemporary profile.

Volkswagen announced in 2018 that Beetle production would end. The final A5 Beetle left the Puebla assembly line in July 2019, bringing the modern Beetle era to a close. Puebla is therefore the single canonical answer; Tijuana, Guadalajara and Monterrey were not the assembly location for this model.
