Which metal band released the 1980 album Heaven and Hell?

The story behind the answer

Black Sabbath released the 1980 album Heaven and Hell.

Heaven and Hell was Black Sabbath’s ninth studio album and the first to feature vocalist Ronnie James Dio. It was released on 25 April 1980. Dio replaced the band’s original singer, Ozzy Osbourne, who had departed in 1979.

The album marked a major change in Black Sabbath’s sound. Dio’s powerful, controlled singing gave the songs a different character, while guitarist Tony Iommi remained the band’s only original member in the lineup. The record includes “Neon Knights,” “Children of the Sea,” “Lady Evil” and the title track.

Heaven and Hell became one of Black Sabbath’s strongest commercial and critical successes. It reached number 9 on the UK Albums Chart and number 28 on the US Billboard 200. The title later became the name of a separate band formed by Iommi, Dio and other musicians in the 2000s, but the 1980 album itself was credited to Black Sabbath.
