Which member of The Foo Fighters was in the band Nirvana?
Answer
Dave Grohl
Answer
Dave Grohl
Dave Grohl was the Foo Fighters member who had been in Nirvana. Grohl joined Nirvana as its drummer in 1990, replacing Chad Channing, and played on the albums Nevermind and In Utero. He remained with the band until Kurt Cobain’s death in April 1994 ended Nirvana.
After Nirvana disbanded, Grohl recorded a collection of his own songs largely by himself. That project became the foundation for Foo Fighters, whose self-titled debut album was released in 1995. Although Grohl initially treated Foo Fighters as a solo recording project, he soon assembled a full touring band, including former Nirvana touring guitarist Pat Smear.
A common mix-up is assuming that Foo Fighters was simply a Nirvana reunion. Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic considered working with Grohl but ultimately did not join the new group. Grohl also became Foo Fighters’ lead vocalist, guitarist and principal songwriter, a major change from his role as Nirvana’s drummer. Both Nirvana and Foo Fighters were later inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with Grohl a member of each group.
