“I’m Lovin’ It” became McDonald’s global brand slogan after its international launch in 2003.
The campaign was introduced during a period when McDonald’s was seeking a more unified worldwide identity. Its informal first-person wording was designed to sound contemporary and adaptable across markets, while the accompanying music and visual style made the phrase easy to recognize.
The English slogan was retained in many markets, while local advertising could adapt the campaign for language and cultural context. The “I’m Lovin’ It” branding also became closely associated with a short musical hook used across McDonald’s commercials.
It is distinct from “You Deserve a Break Today,” the major slogan of the early 1970s. The two lines are often mentioned together in advertising histories because they represent different generations of McDonald’s branding.
