McDonald’s introduced the slogan “I’m lovin’ it” in 2003.
The campaign marked a major attempt to give McDonald’s a single global brand message. Its advertising used the phrase in multiple markets, while the accompanying “ba da ba ba ba” musical signature became closely associated with the company.
The campaign was notable because McDonald’s had often adapted advertising slogans and messages by country. “I’m lovin’ it” provided a common international platform while still allowing local advertisements, languages, and cultural references.
It is often remembered as merely a jingle, but the wording itself is the campaign slogan. Earlier McDonald’s slogans included “You deserve a break today” and “We love to see you smile.” Those belong to different periods and should not be treated as alternate names for the 2003 campaign.
