The Big Mac inspired the design of McDonaldland character Officer Big Mac.
Officer Big Mac was a police-officer character whose head was modeled on McDonald’s Big Mac hamburger. The design extended the company’s practice of turning menu items into recognizable fictional figures within McDonaldland advertising.
Officer Big Mac appeared alongside characters such as Mayor McCheese, the Hamburglar, and Ronald McDonald. His name linked the character directly to the Big Mac, while his uniform supplied the police-officer role in the fictional setting.
The character should not be confused with Mayor McCheese, whose head was also burger-shaped but whose title identified him as McDonaldland’s mayor. McDonaldland’s characters were promotional devices rather than representations of real McDonald’s staff or public officials.
