Which McDonald’s mascot was known as the mayor of McDonaldland?

Mayor McCheese was the McDonald’s mascot known as the mayor of McDonaldland.

Mayor McCheese had a large cheeseburger for a head and was presented as the civic leader of McDonaldland, the fictional setting used in McDonald’s advertising. His design connected the character directly to one of the chain’s most recognizable menu items.

The character appeared alongside Ronald McDonald, Grimace, the Hamburglar, and other McDonaldland figures. Each character had a distinct role, allowing McDonald’s to build a consistent fantasy world around its restaurant branding rather than relying only on product photographs.

Mayor McCheese is sometimes confused with Officer Big Mac because both were authority figures in McDonaldland. The difference is clear in their titles: Mayor McCheese was the town’s mayor, while Officer Big Mac was associated with law enforcement.
