Which McDonald's mascot served as the mayor of McDonaldland?

Mayor McCheese served as the mayor of McDonaldland.

Mayor McCheese was a character with a large cheeseburger for a head, a human-style body, and formal mayoral clothing. He appeared in McDonald's advertising as the official civic leader of the fictional McDonaldland setting.

The character was part of the extensive cast created for McDonald's family-oriented branding in the late 1960s and 1970s. His role gave the fantasy world a recognizable authority figure while keeping the visual style closely tied to the restaurant's menu.

Mayor McCheese is often mixed up with Officer Big Mac, another McDonaldland character. Their names indicate different roles: Mayor McCheese was the town's mayor, while Officer Big Mac was associated with law enforcement. The character became less prominent as McDonald's reduced its use of the broader McDonaldland cast.
