Which McDonald's character was presented as the mayor of McDonaldland?

Mayor McCheese was the McDonald's character presented as the mayor of McDonaldland.

The character was designed as a person with a large cheeseburger for a head, complete with sesame-seed bun, facial features, and a mayoral sash. He appeared in McDonald's television advertising and promotional material during the McDonaldland era.

McDonaldland was a fictional setting created to connect Ronald McDonald with a group of recurring branded characters. Mayor McCheese represented civic authority in that imaginary world, while characters such as Officer Big Mac and the Hamburglar had different roles.

The character is sometimes confused with the Big Mac itself because both use the restaurant's signature sandwich in their names or appearance. Mayor McCheese was a mascot character, not a menu item or a real municipal official.
