Which McDonald's character was known as the purple member of the McDonaldland cast?

The story behind the answer

Grimace was the purple member of McDonaldland’s McDonald’s character cast.

He first appeared in advertising in 1971, originally portrayed as a character with multiple arms who could steal milkshakes. McDonald’s later redesigned Grimace as a large, friendly, purple figure with a much simpler personality.

The redesign helped make Grimace more suitable for children’s advertising and group appearances with Ronald McDonald and other McDonaldland characters. His exact species has never been central to the brand’s storytelling, which is why descriptions generally focus on his color and unusual shape.

Grimace is often confused with the Hamburglar because both were introduced during McDonaldland’s early period. Their roles were different: the Hamburglar was a mischievous hamburger thief, while Grimace became a friendly companion associated with the McDonald’s brand.
