Which McDonald's character was known as the fast-food brand's burger-stealing burglar?

The story behind the answer

The Hamburglar was McDonald’s burger-stealing burglar character.

The Hamburglar became part of the McDonaldland advertising cast in the early 1970s. His defining trait was an obsession with hamburgers, especially McDonald’s signature hamburgers. The character’s black-and-white striped clothing, cape, mask, and exaggerated speech made the food-related joke immediately recognizable to children.

McDonald’s later redesigned the Hamburglar in 1985. The newer version looked younger and more polished, replacing much of the original character’s strange, impish appearance while retaining the burger-stealing concept.

The Hamburglar is often mixed up with Grimace because both characters were originally connected with taking food. Their roles were different: Grimace was first associated with stolen milkshakes, while the Hamburglar’s recurring target was hamburgers.
