Which McDonald’s advertising slogan was launched in 2003 and became an international brand line?

The story behind the answer

McDonald’s launched the international advertising slogan “I’m lovin’ it” in 2003.

The line became one of the company’s most recognizable modern brand elements and was used across television, radio, print, packaging, and digital advertising. Its wording was deliberately conversational, presenting McDonald’s as part of an everyday personal experience rather than only as a product or service.

The slogan is sometimes mixed up with “You deserve a break today,” an earlier McDonald’s advertising line from the 1970s. “We love to see you smile” was also used by the company in a different campaign period, but it was not the 2003 international slogan.

The campaign was accompanied by a short musical signature, often called the “ba da ba ba ba” jingle. Together, the phrase and sound helped standardize McDonald’s branding across many markets while allowing local advertising to adapt around them.
