Which McDonaldland character is the mayor?

Mayor McCheese is the McDonaldland character who serves as its mayor.

He is depicted as an enormous cheeseburger-headed figure wearing a top hat, sash and pince-nez spectacles. In McDonald’s advertising, he was presented as McDonaldland’s bumbling mayor and one of Ronald McDonald’s fellow characters. Mayor McCheese first appeared in the early McDonaldland campaign in 1971.

The character became part of a larger fantasy setting populated by figures such as the Hamburglar, Captain Crook, Officer Big Mac and the Professor. The campaign also featured imaginative locations and food-themed elements, including hamburger patches and Filet-O-Fish Lake.

Mayor McCheese is sometimes confused with Officer Big Mac because both characters had burger-shaped heads. Their roles were different: Mayor McCheese governed McDonaldland, while Officer Big Mac served as its police officer. Mayor McCheese was largely retired from regular commercials after 1985.
