Speedee was the mascot used by McDonald's to represent its speedy service system.
The character was a chef with a hamburger-shaped head and appeared in McDonald's early branding after the restaurant adopted its Speedee Service System. That system emphasized a limited menu, standardized preparation, and fast counter service.
Speedee predates Ronald McDonald and the later McDonaldland cast. Many people remember the golden arches as McDonald's earliest visual symbol, but the arches became dominant only after the company moved away from the original Speedee-centered identity.
The name also connects McDonald's branding to its operational history: “Speedee Service System” described the restaurant model developed by Richard and Maurice McDonald in San Bernardino, California. The mascot was eventually retired as the company built a broader family-oriented character universe.
