“Secret” by Maroon 5 was featured in the 2005 romantic comedy “The Wedding Date.”
The song appears among the film’s licensed music, alongside tracks by artists including Michael Bublé, Texas, and James Brown. “The Wedding Date” stars Debra Messing as Kat Ellis, a woman who hires a male escort, played by Dermot Mulroney, to pose as her boyfriend at her sister’s wedding in London. The soundtrack mixes contemporary pop with romantic standards to match the film’s wedding setting.
“Secret” was written by Maroon 5 members Adam Levine, James Valentine, Mickey Madden, Jesse Carmichael, and Ryan Dusick. It was associated with the band’s early-2000s period, when Maroon 5 was widely known for songs such as “This Love” and “She Will Be Loved.”
A frequent mistake is answering with “Sugar,” another Maroon 5 song strongly associated with weddings because of its 2015 music video. That song came a decade later and was not the track featured in “The Wedding Date.” The film’s Maroon 5 selection is “Secret.”
