LVMH became the first European company to exceed a $500 billion market capitalization in April 2023.
The French luxury conglomerate reached the milestone as investors continued to value strong demand for high-end fashion, jewelry, watches, perfumes, and spirits. LVMH’s portfolio includes Louis Vuitton, Dior, Tiffany & Co., Bulgari, Moët & Chandon, and Hennessy.
Its market value reflected both the performance of its brands and the scarcity of globally recognized luxury labels. Luxury groups can command high margins because customers often pay for design, heritage, craftsmanship, and brand identity rather than only raw materials.
LVMH is sometimes confused with Louis Vuitton, but Louis Vuitton is only one of the group’s many maisons. The initials LVMH refer to the 1987 merger of Louis Vuitton and Moët Hennessy. Bernard Arnault has led the group for decades and built it into Europe’s most valuable listed company.
