LVMH is the luxury-goods company that became Europe’s first company valued above $500 billion.
LVMH crossed the $500 billion market-capitalization mark in April 2023 as investors valued the group’s broad portfolio of luxury brands. The company is formally named LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton and is headquartered in Paris. Its shares trade on Euronext Paris.
The group owns or controls brands including Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Fendi, Bulgari, Tiffany & Co., and Moët & Chandon. Its businesses span wines and spirits, fashion and leather goods, perfumes and cosmetics, watches and jewelry, and selective retailing.
LVMH was created in 1987 through the merger of Moët Hennessy and Louis Vuitton. Bernard Arnault became a central figure in building the modern group, which is often described as the world’s largest luxury-goods company. The $500 billion milestone refers to the market value of the publicly traded parent, not the value of Louis Vuitton alone.
