Michigan J. Frog is the talented but troublesome star of the 1955 Merrie Melodies short One Froggy Evening. He wears a top hat, carries a cane, and performs songs with dancing and acrobatics in the style of early twentieth-century vaudeville. One of his signature numbers is “Hello! Ma Baby,” a Tin Pan Alley song written in 1899.

The cartoon begins when a construction worker discovers the frog sealed inside a metal box in a building cornerstone. The frog performs only for the person who possesses the box. Whenever anyone else watches, he becomes an ordinary, expressionless frog, preventing the worker from proving his discovery or becoming rich.
