Which London Underground station is the southern terminus of the Northern line’s Charing Cross branch?

The story behind the answer

Morden is the southern terminus of the Northern line’s Charing Cross branch.

The station opened in 1926 as part of the extension of the City and South London Railway southward from Clapham Common. It was designed by Charles Holden, whose modernist station architecture became a major feature of Underground expansion during the interwar period.

Morden is in the London Borough of Merton and is one of the network’s deepest stations, with platforms below ground but a substantial surface-level station building. The station is also an important bus interchange for south London.

The Northern line has more than one southern branch. Trains also run toward Battersea Power Station on the newer extension, while the City branch terminates at Morden’s neighbouring northern branch destination, so route maps must be read carefully.
