Which London Underground station has the famous disused Aldwych branch connected to it?

The story behind the answer

The disused Aldwych branch was connected to Holborn station.

Aldwych was a short branch of the Piccadilly line that opened in 1907 as Strand. Its northern connection began at Holborn, where trains could leave the main Piccadilly route and run south toward the branch terminus.

The branch was built to serve the growing area around the Strand, but passenger use remained relatively low. It operated with a small number of trains and eventually closed permanently in 1994. The station and tunnels have since appeared in films, television productions and other screen projects.

Aldwych is sometimes mistaken for Charing Cross because both stations have connections with the Strand name. However, Aldwych was a separate station, while Charing Cross was formerly called Strand before being renamed in 1979. Holborn remains an active Piccadilly line station.
