Which London Underground line has the oldest surviving trains still in regular passenger service?

The story behind the answer

The Bakerloo line has the oldest surviving trains still in regular London Underground passenger service.

Its 1972 Stock trains entered service in the early 1970s and remain in operation, making them the oldest regularly used passenger trains on the Underground. Their continued service is especially notable because most other lines have received newer rolling stock.

The Bakerloo line itself opened in 1906 as the Baker Street and Waterloo Railway. Its name combines Baker Street and Waterloo, two important points on the original route.

The trains’ age is a fleet fact, not an indication that the line is the oldest Underground route. The Metropolitan Railway opened in 1863, while the Bakerloo line began decades later.
