The London Eye is the main focus of London's official New Year's Eve fireworks.
The display is staged along the River Thames, with fireworks launched from the London Eye, barges, and nearby areas. The Ferris wheel's illuminated structure provides a recognizable center for the televised event, while the surrounding skyline includes the Palace of Westminster and other landmarks.
London's midnight celebration is closely linked with the clock at the Elizabeth Tower, whose bell signals the arrival of the new year. However, the clock tower is not the fireworks' main focal structure. The tower is often popularly called Big Ben, although Big Ben properly refers to the Great Bell inside it.
The modern large-scale event expanded substantially in the twenty-first century and usually requires ticketed viewing zones near the river. Fireworks displays elsewhere in London may be independent, but references to the city's official televised show generally mean the River Thames event centered on the London Eye.
