Which London hospital is used as Sherlock Holmes’s apparent death location in Sherlock?
Answer
St Bartholomew’s Hospital
Answer
St Bartholomew’s Hospital
St Bartholomew’s Hospital is the London hospital used as Sherlock Holmes’s apparent death location in Sherlock.
At the end of “The Reichenbach Fall,” Sherlock jumps from the roof of St Bartholomew’s Hospital after Moriarty forces him to create the appearance of suicide. John Watson watches from the street and believes that Sherlock has died.
The hospital is commonly known as Barts and is one of London’s historic hospitals. Its recognizable exterior and rooftop became strongly associated with Sherlock’s series 2 cliffhanger. The location also connects the television version to the medical and scientific atmosphere surrounding Holmes and Watson.
The scene does not establish that Sherlock truly dies there. Series 3 reveals that the apparent death was staged, although the programme deliberately withholds and debates the exact mechanics of the escape. The hospital location itself, however, is clearly identified in the story.
