Which life stage comes after Toddler in The Sims 4?

The story behind the answer

The life stage that comes after Toddler in The Sims 4 is Child.

The full progression is Newborn, Infant, Toddler, Child, Teen, Young Adult, Adult, and Elder. A Sim normally ages from the toddler stage into childhood, gaining access to child-specific interactions, school, homework, and the three child skills: Creativity, Mental, and Motor.

A common mix-up comes from The Sims 4’s updates. Toddlers were added to the base game in a free January 2017 update, while the Infant stage arrived in 2023. That means the current sequence includes both Infant and Toddler before Child; older guides or memories of the game may skip Infant or refer to the former Baby stage.

Child is also distinct from Teen. Children can attend elementary school and develop child skills, but they cannot hold jobs or use the full adult skill system. After Child comes Teen, followed by Young Adult—not Adult—so the other choices belong later in the life-stage sequence.
