Which lake lies between Peru and Bolivia in the Andes?
Answer
Lake Titicaca
Answer
Lake Titicaca
Lake Titicaca lies between Peru and Bolivia in the Andes.
At an elevation of about 3,812 metres above sea level, Lake Titicaca is often described as the world's highest navigable lake for large vessels. Its deep blue water occupies a high plateau called the Altiplano, surrounded by dramatic Andean mountains.
The lake has two major connected basins, the larger Lago Chucuito and the smaller Lago Huinaymarca, separated by the Strait of Tiquina. The Desaguadero River provides its main surface outlet toward the endorheic Lake Poopó basin, although water levels and downstream conditions vary.
Titicaca has been important to Andean cultures for centuries. The Uros people are famous for their artificial floating islands made largely from totora reeds. The lake's name and exact etymology are disputed, so claims about a single literal translation should be treated cautiously.
