Which lake is the largest of the Great Salt Lake system in Utah?

The story behind the answer

Great Salt Lake is the largest lake in Utah and the largest remnant of prehistoric Lake Bonneville.

Great Salt Lake is a shallow, saline, endorheic lake in northern Utah. Because it has no outlet to the ocean, water leaves mainly through evaporation, concentrating salts and minerals. Its surface area changes substantially with precipitation, inflow, drought, and evaporation.

The lake is a remnant of Lake Bonneville, a much larger Ice Age lake that covered parts of the Great Basin. The Bonneville Salt Flats and other landforms preserve evidence of that ancient shoreline. Today, Great Salt Lake wetlands provide important habitat for migratory birds, including large numbers of shorebirds and waterfowl.

Its salinity varies by location and water level. Brine shrimp and brine flies thrive in the lake, while many fish cannot survive in its saltier open waters. Utah Lake is a separate, much fresher lake to the south.
