Which lake in Aetolia-Acarnania is Greece's largest natural lake?

Lake Trichonida is Greece’s largest natural lake, in Aetolia-Acarnania.

The lake covers about 98.6 square kilometres and reaches roughly 58 metres at its deepest point. It lies southeast of Agrinio, between the Panaitoliko Mountains and the settlements of eastern Aetolia-Acarnania.

Trichonida is a remnant of a much larger ancient lake. Around one million years ago, water covered much of the surrounding region; later geological change and sedimentation left the modern basin. Its wooded shores support more than 200 recorded bird species.

A common mix-up is Lake Prespa, which is larger as a transboundary lake system but is shared with Albania and North Macedonia. For Greece’s largest natural lake entirely associated with the country, Trichonida is the standard answer.
