Which Lahore stadium hosted the 1996 Cricket World Cup final?

The 1996 Cricket World Cup final was hosted by Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

The match was played on 17 March 1996, with Australia facing Sri Lanka at the Lahore ground. Gaddafi Stadium hosted its first World Cup final and welcomed 62,645 spectators for a contest that produced Sri Lanka’s first world title.

Australia made 241 for seven in its 50 overs. Sri Lanka chased the target successfully, reaching 245 for three in 46.2 overs and winning by seven wickets with 22 balls remaining. Aravinda de Silva was the outstanding performer, scoring an unbeaten 107 and taking three wickets.

The venue can be confused with Pakistan’s other tournament grounds, including Rawalpindi, Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium and Karachi’s National Stadium. Gaddafi Stadium was the Lahore venue and had also hosted matches during the 1987 World Cup, before staging the decisive 1996 final.
