Which Kenyan national park is known for its flamingo populations?

The story behind the answer

The Kenyan national park known for its flamingo populations is Lake Nakuru National Park.

Created in 1961 around Lake Nakuru, the park protects a shallow, alkaline lake near Nakuru city in Kenya's Rift Valley. Its warm waters can support abundant algae, attracting large concentrations of lesser flamingos and, in smaller numbers, greater flamingos. When conditions are favorable, the birds gather along the shoreline in spectacular pink formations.

Flamingo numbers are not fixed. Water levels, food availability, pollution, and other changes in water quality can cause the birds to move elsewhere, so photographs showing millions of flamingos do not represent the park at every moment. The lake also supports pelicans, cormorants, and hundreds of other bird species.

The park is more than a bird sanctuary. Its fenced 188-square-kilometre area also protects black and white rhinoceroses and giraffes. A common mix-up is Masai Mara National Reserve, which is famous for big cats and the wildebeest migration, rather than Lake Nakuru's iconic flamingo spectacle.
