The Katy Perry and Kanye West collaboration that topped the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks in 2011 was “E.T.”
The song first appeared as a Katy Perry solo track on her 2010 album Teenage Dream. A new version featuring Kanye West was released as a single in 2011, adding West’s rap verses and helping the song become a major pop hit. It re-entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 28 before climbing to No. 1.
“E.T.” reached the summit for five non-consecutive weeks. Its first week at No. 1 was the chart issue dated April 9, 2011. The song gave Perry her fifth Billboard Hot 100 number one and West his fourth as a lead or featured artist.
Readers sometimes confuse the song’s chart run with its seven-week reign atop Billboard’s Hot Digital Songs chart. “E.T.” was also part of Teenage Dream’s remarkable run: the album eventually produced five U.S. number-one singles, matching the record set by Michael Jackson’s Bad.
