Which J.R.R. Tolkien character carries the One Ring to Mordor?

The story behind the answer

Frodo Baggins carries the One Ring to Mordor in J.R.R. Tolkien’s story.

Frodo inherits the Ring from his uncle Bilbo Baggins after Bilbo’s birthday celebration. Gandalf discovers that Bilbo’s apparently magical ring is actually the One Ring, created by Sauron to control the other Rings of Power. Frodo therefore leaves the Shire to keep the Ring from being found there.

At the Council of Elrond, Frodo volunteers to take the Ring to Mordor, where it can be destroyed in the fires of Mount Doom. He begins the journey with the Fellowship and eventually continues it with Samwise Gamgee after the company breaks apart.

Frodo is the Ring-bearer, but he does not complete the entire quest alone. Sam carries him near the end, and Gollum’s intervention ultimately causes the Ring to fall into the fire. This is why Frodo remains central even though Sam is crucial to the mission’s success.
