Which Jamaican singer was Bob Marley’s wife and a member of the I Threes?

The story behind the answer

Rita Marley was Bob Marley’s wife and a member of the I Threes.

Born Alpharita Constantia Anderson, Rita became a singer with the Soulettes before joining the I Threes. The vocal trio, completed by Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt, provided backing vocals for Bob Marley and the Wailers during their major international period.

Rita and Bob Marley married in 1966. She continued her own recording career and later worked to preserve and promote Marley’s musical legacy through projects connected with the family and the Bob Marley Foundation.

Rita Marley is sometimes confused with the other I Threes members because all three singers played an important role in the group’s live and recorded sound. Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt were her fellow vocalists, not Marley’s wife.
