Prada launched the Miu Miu diffusion line in 1993. The label was created by Miuccia Prada and takes its name from her family nickname, “Miu Miu.”
The brand was established in 1992 and publicly introduced in 1993 with a collection built around cowgirl-inspired clothing, including fringed suede jackets and patchwork prairie skirts. It offered a more playful and experimental contrast to Prada’s main line while remaining part of the Prada Group.
Miu Miu is sometimes mistaken for an independent competitor because it developed its own visual identity, stores, shows, and product range. It is, however, a fully owned Prada subsidiary. The brand first presented in the United States in 1994 and later began showing womenswear during Paris Fashion Week in 2006.
A related milestone came in 2015, when Miu Miu introduced its first fragrance. That expansion followed the label’s success in fashion and accessories and helped establish it as a major luxury brand in its own right.
