Which Italian luxury car brand is known for its 'Trident' logo?

The story behind the answer

Maserati is the Italian luxury car brand known for its Trident logo.

The emblem depicts Neptune’s trident, linking the marque to Bologna’s Fountain of Neptune in Piazza Maggiore. Mario Maserati, the only Maserati brother who pursued an artistic career, designed the symbol. It was adopted in the early 1920s after a suggestion from family friend Marquis Diego de Sterlich.

The logo was a natural choice for a sporting-car company: Neptune represented strength and vigor, while the fountain connected the brand to its original home city. The Maserati brothers founded their marque in Bologna in 1914, and the company later became associated with both racing cars and elegant grand tourers.

A common mix-up is confusing the Trident with other Italian automotive symbols. Alfa Romeo is associated with a biscione and a cross, Ferrari with the prancing horse, and Lamborghini with a bull. Maserati’s Trident is its defining badge, appearing on road cars and racing machinery alike.
