Which Italian island represented the poem’s “goat island” in The Odyssey (2026)?

The story behind the answer

Favignana represented the poem’s “goat island” in The Odyssey (2026). The island lies in Sicily’s Aegadian Islands and was used as one of the film’s real maritime locations.

Filming moved to Favignana by March 27, 2025. The production selected the island because it was believed to correspond to the “goat island” described in Homer’s poem. That location is distinct from the Aeolian Islands, where water-borne scenes involving the mythological island of Aeolia were filmed.

Using Favignana helped the production pursue Christopher Nolan’s preference for physical locations and real seas. The film’s ships were sailed between filming areas, allowing the maritime sequences to be captured in environments that could visibly convey the scale and difficulty of Odysseus’s voyage.
