Which Italian designer created the iconic Bone cuff bracelet for Tiffany & Co.?
Answer
Elsa Peretti
Answer
Elsa Peretti
Italian designer Elsa Peretti created Tiffany & Co.’s iconic Bone cuff bracelet.
Peretti joined Tiffany in 1974 after establishing herself as a modern jewelry designer and fashion model associated with Halston. Her work brought sculptural, organic shapes and a strong sense of wearability to the house’s collections. The Bone cuff, introduced in 1970, is one of her signature designs and remains among the best-known examples of her approach.
The bracelet takes its form from the human wrist and the curved structure of a bone. Rather than treating jewelry as merely decorative, Peretti made the body part of the design: the cuff wraps around the wrist, with asymmetrical ends that extend naturally over the hand. Its bold silhouette helped blur the line between fashion jewelry and serious, collectible design.
Peretti also created Tiffany collections including Bean, Open Heart, Mesh and Zodiac. Her extensive use of sterling silver was especially influential, helping make silver a major part of Tiffany’s modern identity. Coco Chanel, Jean Schlumberger and Paloma Picasso were important designers or collaborators in their own right, but they did not create the Bone cuff.
