The Tiffany Yellow Diamond went on display at the Smithsonian Institution in 2007.
Tiffany & Co. loaned the celebrated gem to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., where it was exhibited from April 18 to September 23, 2007. At the time, curator Jeffrey E. Post described it as the largest diamond on display in the United States.
The exhibition gave visitors a rare look at a stone that normally belongs to Tiffany’s heritage collection and is associated with the company’s flagship store in New York City. Its 128.54-carat weight is especially striking beside the Smithsonian’s 45.52-carat Hope Diamond, making the Tiffany stone roughly three times as massive by carat weight.
The date is sometimes confused with the diamond’s other major appearances. It was shown at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, brought to South Africa in 1971 for the Kimberley Mine centennial, and displayed in London in 1986. It was also worn at the 2019 Academy Awards, but that was not its Smithsonian exhibition.
