Florence is the main starting location in Assassin's Creed II.
The game opens in Renaissance Florence, where the player meets Ezio Auditore da Firenze as a young nobleman. The city provides the setting for his family life, the events that send him toward the Assassin Brotherhood, and many of his earliest missions.
Florence is portrayed through landmarks and districts inspired by the real city, including the Basilica of Santa Croce, the Palazzo della Signoria, and the Duomo. Ezio later travels beyond Florence to locations such as Monteriggioni, Forlì, Venice, and the Vatican City.
Venice is another major setting in Assassin's Creed II, which is why it is a common mix-up. Rome is especially important in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, while Milan is not the game's principal starting city.
