Which Islamic month follows Ramadan?
Answer
Shawwal
Answer
Shawwal
Shawwal is the Islamic month that follows Ramadan. It is the tenth month of the Islamic calendar and begins with Eid al-Fitr, the festival marking the end of Ramadan fasting.
The Islamic calendar is lunar, with months beginning when the new crescent is observed or calculated according to different local and scholarly practices. As a result, Shawwal and Eid al-Fitr shift earlier by roughly eleven days each solar year. The month can have 29 or 30 days, like other Islamic months.
Shawwal is also associated with an optional practice of fasting six days during the month. These fasts are distinct from Ramadan fasting and are not required. A common mix-up is placing Eid al-Fitr in Ramadan; the festival belongs to the beginning of Shawwal, immediately after Ramadan ends.
