Westlife released its debut single, “Swear It Again,” in 1999.
The song was written by Steve Mac and Wayne Hector and became Westlife’s first single after the group signed with RCA Records. It entered the UK Singles Chart at number one, immediately establishing the Irish group as a major pop act.
“Swear It Again” was later included on Westlife’s self-titled debut album, released in 1999. The song’s success helped define the group’s early image as a harmony-focused band specializing in romantic pop ballads.
Westlife are sometimes mixed up with Boyzone because both were successful Irish vocal groups during the 1990s and 2000s. Boyzone were already established before Westlife formed, while “Swear It Again” specifically belongs to Westlife’s debut campaign.
