Which international bank was founded in 1930 to settle reparations and support central-bank cooperation?

The story behind the answer

The Bank for International Settlements was founded in 1930 to settle reparations and support central-bank cooperation.

The bank was created under the Young Plan, an agreement that reorganized Germany’s post-World War I reparations payments. Its founding governments included Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, with commercial banks involved in its establishment.

The BIS opened for business in Basel, Switzerland, in April 1930. Although reparations became less central after political and economic changes, the institution continued as a forum for cooperation among central banks and a provider of financial services to them.

The BIS is not the same as the International Monetary Fund or the World Bank, both created at the Bretton Woods Conference in 1944. The BIS predates both organizations by fourteen years.
