Which Indiana Jones film was the first to use the title character’s name in its title?

The story behind the answer

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was the first Indiana Jones film to use the character’s name in its title.

The film followed Raiders of the Lost Ark and was released in 1984. Unlike its predecessor, whose official cinema title was Raiders of the Lost Ark, the sequel adopted the recurring “Indiana Jones and...” naming pattern. That format continued with Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

The Temple of Doom is a prequel in story chronology. Its events take place in 1935, one year before Raiders of the Lost Ark. Indiana travels to India with singer Willie Scott and the young orphan Short Round, becoming involved with the Thuggee cult and the recovery of sacred Sankara Stones.

The film was directed by Steven Spielberg and again starred Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones.
