Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
Answer
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was the first Indiana Jones film directed by someone other than Steven Spielberg.
James Mangold directed Dial of Destiny, released in 2023. Steven Spielberg had directed the first four films in the series: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Spielberg remained involved with Dial of Destiny as an executive producer.
The change in director marked a major production transition while retaining Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. Mangold also co-wrote the screenplay with Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth, and David Koepp. The film follows an older Indiana during the 1969 Space Race and introduces the ancient Antikythera mechanism as its central object. It is therefore distinct from the earlier sequels not only in story era but also in directorial authorship.
