Narayana Murthy and six colleagues established Infosys in 1981.
Murthy founded the company with N. S. Raghavan, Nandan Nilekani, Kris Gopalakrishnan, S. D. Shibulal, K. Dinesh, and Ashok Arora. The founders began with modest capital and built an information-technology services business focused on software development and consulting.
Infosys was incorporated in Pune, India, and later moved its headquarters to Bengaluru. It became one of India’s best-known technology-services exporters, serving international clients from delivery centers around the world. A common mix-up is calling Murthy the sole founder: he was the leading public figure, but the company was created by a seven-person founding group. Infosys’s later stock-market success also helped raise its profile among global technology companies.
