Which Indian national park is famous for its one-horned rhinoceros?
Answer
Kaziranga National Park
Answer
Kaziranga National Park
Kaziranga National Park is the Indian national park famous for its one-horned rhinoceros.
Located in Assam in northeastern India, Kaziranga protects the Indian rhinoceros, also called the greater one-horned rhinoceros. Its broad floodplains, tall elephant grass, wetlands and woodland along the Brahmaputra River create ideal habitat for these massive herbivores.
Kaziranga became a protected area in 1905 and was designated a national park in 1974. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park is especially important because it holds roughly two-thirds of the world’s Indian rhinoceroses, making it the species’ most significant stronghold.
A common mix-up is confusing the Indian rhinoceros with the two African rhinoceros species, which have two horns. Kaziranga is also home to Bengal tigers, Asian elephants, wild water buffalo and swamp deer, often grouped as the park’s “Big Five.”
