Which humanoid robot won the 2015 DARPA Robotics Challenge?

The story behind the answer

DRC-Hubo won the 2015 DARPA Robotics Challenge.

Team KAIST’s DRC-Hubo completed the disaster-response course fastest, earning first place in the final competition in Pomona, California, on June 5–6, 2015. The robot combined humanoid upper-body features with wheeled knees that could lower its center of gravity and improve stability.

Teams had to perform tasks modeled on emergency response, including driving, walking, opening doors, climbing stairs, cutting through barriers, and connecting a hose. The contest tested both robot hardware and operator control in difficult conditions.

Atlas was a prominent competitor and finished second with Team IHMC. CHIMP and RoboSimian also competed, but neither won the final event. DRC-Hubo refers to the robot and team configuration used by KAIST.
